Poppy

This poppy was waiting for her closeup near the trail on our local greenway. Doesn't she look beautiful dressed in her water color painted petals? Gail

  1. Nice picture Gail! I've got seed for some poppies but never got around to planting them.

  2. Dave, I do too and plan to plant them this fall...at least that is what I've read we should do. I bought mine from an internet source and they are the Papaver somniferum mixed...lots of colors to go in my everything clashes well garden.

  3. What a gorgeous poppy. I love pink and to see it in nature is just breathtaking. Are poppies are hard to grow?

  4. DP,

I sprinkled a package of wildflower seeds this spring and I have some poppies...whether they make themselves at home is another question! We'll see.

  5. Gail, I love poppies and the pink is just gorgeous! Let's hope it does make itself at home and even spreads some.

  6. Skeeter,

Thanks...I am trying to take more closeups...I think you can see the
real plant when you look into their faces!

  8. Gail, next time I am there at the garden, I will try to get a good picture for you and also the name. I think it's a very interesting plant. I remember seeing it when I was a child on my grandparents farm in Indiana. They grew tobacco and I always thought it looked a lot like tobacco when it would send up it's stalk. "why were they growing tobacco in the road ditches!?"

  9. beckie,

I can see that it would look like tobacco leaves. Thank you for thinking about photographing the mullein!

  10. Wow, what a stunning photo! I thought of you yesterday when we saw some pink phlox in the Idea Garden (but did I take a picture??), but I'm not sure it was the perfectly pink variety you have shown.
I've never grown poppies because I'm not overly fond of orange in the garden. But this pink one is a beauty. I may have to add it to my ever-growing list.
Missed yesterday's post--I can't believe that is a weed! But then I just planted some butterfly weed, and I've seen varieties of milkweed in gardens, which was the bane of my father's fields. I think you are a very considerate gardener, though, to make sure its seeds don't spread beyond your garden.

  11. Rose,

Phlox pilosa is the phlox I write about...there is still a bit in bloom in my front wildflower bed! It's in semi-shade...

I am going to order them myself!

  12. I am suddenly craving some watermelon! Perhaps the clear color of that poppy is to blame. Love it. Also love the verbascum in the previous post. It is such a sturdy plant isn't it?

  13. Layanee,

I do see what you mean...watermelon it is! I had some for lunch, delicious! Glad you liked the Mullein, too!
