Practically Perfect Pink Phlox* Revisited

It's that time of the week when we visit the Practically Perfect Pink Phlox in all its pinkness. She's still lovely but close examination shows the pink beginning to fade and the delicate blossoms to look like they have spent too long in the wind (40 mile per hour gusts) and rain (three many days of rain).

She is still the center piece of the backyard wildflower garden and her fragrance still fills the air, soon Spiderwort and Penstemon will take center stage.

  1. Ah, but they all fade don't they? Sooner or later.

  2. Never can revisit the Practically Perfect Pink Phlox to much as they are so lovely and you must read a lot to get all those great quotes. Where do you find the time?

  5. Nancy,

aren't they ever! I do believe they have one more showing, unless the storms forecast wipe them out. Our weather has been extreme recently.

  6. Hi Gail, I adore Beverley Nichols, have read Merry Hall at least ten times, and never get tired of it. Your phlox looks good. We about got blown away in North Carolina, and had a harrowing ride home last night with wind and rain. I couldn't even plant the nice mother's day plants that were received today, so worn out. ;-<

  7. frances,

I was wondering about the weather rumbling through your part of the state...some limbs down but nothing serious! The wind was fearsome yesterday but with no rain the big problem was the pollen, it is was thick and we couldn't breath.

    Your flowers were lovely...

The phlox continues to be sweet and next week it will be gone, I think.

  8. I love those! Anything that beautiful deserves a spot in the garden. I have several flowers that bloom less time than even phlox, but even if they fade with age they are still beautiful. Hmm, reminds me of some people I know....

  9. Your pink phlox is delightful. I still haven't planted mine outside yet. Hopefully the nasty weather will subside so I can get everything planted.

  10. cinj,

This phlox is especially nice. Phlox pilosa.

There are so many flowers I couldn't do without.

So glad people still appreciate us all as we age and fade!

  11. Robin,

What is up with this weather? What kind of phlox do you have? Annual or perennial?
