Holding out against winter

Willowleaf aster/Symphyotrichum praealtum is still holding onto its color despite 22F temperatures this morning! The Arctic freeze that is blowing into town will put an end to its color, but it reigns supreme as my longest blooming rough and tumble wildflower!

If this doesn't convince you to plant it in your garden, I don't know what else I can do!

PS I've written about it many times, in fact as recently as last month, check out ~Willowleaf aster, a must for your garden!

  2. I absolutely LOVE the late asters! I think they are my favorite of all the wildflowers for color, beauty, and ability to attract pollinators!

  6. I love watching those last survivors. Due to your recommendation, I have put this one on my list of plants for 2015. I had a golden alexander that continued to bloom until our most recent cold snap. Pretty sure it is benefiting from the microclimate where it is planted but still exciting. I think this week will put an end to any remaining blooms in my garden.

  9. Always ready to try a new aster, though I doubt it would still be holding out up here!

  13. Wow, that's quite amazing! I found a couple of pansies still hanging onto flowers well into December, and it certainly made me smile.
