Minute By Minute

The days grow longer~

Snow can cover our gardens.

Arctic freezes can blow into town.

Winter's wet and gray days can threaten to over whelm us.

Sooner or later the skies clear, the sun returns and our spirits soar, as spring grows closer~

Minute by minute.

Keep warm my friends, hold fast to the knowledge that the days are getting longer and we are moving closer to spring ~ minute by minute.

  1. Brilliantly done, dear Gail. I love those oak leaves with the frozen glass? Stay warm. We have over six inches now and it is still coming down hard.

  3. I can always count on you, Gail, for a lift to my spirits every Monday morning! This is so true--I've been noticing lately that dusk comes later and later each day. Surely, spring will be here before you know it.

In the meantime, we're in for some of the snow today that has fallen across the South.

  4. love the grass photo especially. What a day we are having here, guess your snow is here now? An hour ago it was about 6 inches and has been continuing to fall....not sure of the forecasted total.

  5. I love that photo of the cherub with the little bird. Waiting so patiently for sunshine and warm days.

  6. Gail, that's exactly what Kevin said yesterday at 5:00 p.m. when the sun was still peaking through the window. Your blue/pink sky is proof it won't be long now.

  8. Yes, closer by the minute. I just made note this morning as the sun came up just a minute sooner than last week. Spring is coming, dear Gail.

Your photos are really lovely. Winter has really made its mark on TN this year.
    Stay warm and snuggly. Meems

  9. The leaves against the window with the wintry trees in the background is such an arresting photo. I stared at it for a while to figure out what I was looking at.

  10. I love the Robin soaking up the sun in the tree branch. Awesome photos as always, Gail! And batten down the hatches as yet another storm makes its way up the coast today. Sending you many warm thoughts :)

  11. All great photos--I like the one of the garden bench in the snow.

  12. I have been relishing every extra minute of sunlight that I am getting now. It's hard to keep up a blog when it's dark when you leave and dark when you get home. ;) Love the pictures.

  13. Beautiful photographs! I am very much looking forward to Spring especially today since I am under 7" of snow today and freezing rain.

  14. Can't wait for those minutes to increase, is'nt it wonderful?

The lilac buds are showing a touch of green here, thank goodness. More snow for us too.

  15. Gail, I noticed just last night that the day was longer. The sun was setting in such a lovely glow AFTER 6pm. Wow. It felt so good to see that. I am looking forward to spring for sure. No new snow here ...yet.

  16. What a beautiful set of photos! The texture is just wonderful. The window shot with the leaves is perfect.

I saw four robins this morning. They didn't stay around, just stopped in to visit the winterberry bush.

  17. Great pics and a timely reminder. My view though the window today is just like your third photo! I am definitely looking forward to spring.

  18. Spring seemed to take a step backward today, when I woke up to 28 degrees outside. I know, not cold by northern standards, but us coastal Californians aren't use to Jack Frost visiting this often. Roll on spring!

  19. Your photos are gorgeous! I just went to Phillip's blog and can't believe the 8" of snow in his beautiful garden!

It's snowing lightly here with some freezing drizzle. Most of the NC snow is south of us and even at the beach! We're going to Hawaii tomorrow -- if the plane flies -- the first flight was already cancelled, but we're on another flight.

    Stay warm!

  20. Lovely -- and especially welcome with all the snow that we've had!

  21. I think about spring creeping closer all of the time. I wish we could catch a glimpse of that beautiful blue sky tomorrow instead of freezing rain.

  22. That is one gorgeous winter sky! I love the contrast of the tree skeletons against those luminous sky colors. -Jean

  24. Your image of the oak leaves blown against the glass backdropped with the tree is very pretty. It is such a unique image and perspective to winter weather.

  25. Lovely Gail. As the gray of winter shows itself we can remind ourselves that the earth is resting & preparing for the burst of Spring renewing our senses, our souls.
    Do stay warm.

  26. Such beautiful images Gail, you have such a good eye. Stay warm and dram of Spring!

  27. Gail, these photos are exceptional, capturing the beauty of winter. Minute by minute is a good way to think of our slow march to spring... step by step through snow, wind, ice, and cold, until one day we are stopped in our tracks by the sighting of the first crocus bloom. Then we will want those minutes to slow down.

  28. Gail, I love the contrast between the leaves on the wet window with the clearing sky - fantastic! And such a beautiful expression of how our spirits awaken when the sun comes out! Thanks for the beautiful post - very much needed on this gray, cold day.

  29. I can't wait Gail! Great post. I LOVE that third photo ~ very cool shot.

  30. We certainly note the change from days getting shorter to getting longer up here in the far north. Yesterday the sun was out in the morning, beautiful, and it was still light at 4:30 pm! Hooray!

  31. Gail - I certainly hope so! I'm ready for the winter weather to say farewell!

  32. I'm south of you, in central Mississippi. You got what they told us we might get, but it seemed to lift off to the north - northern Mississippi got plenty of snow and ice, but my area only got minimal icing. I'm ready to start my gardening year!
