Wordless Wednesday~Sort Of

What a sweet surprise,
Forget-me-nots have flowered
in the Garden Of Benign Neglect.
I scattered seeds last fall and they must have loved
all the rain we had in October!
Maybe they will like it here and stay for awhile.

Speaking of the GOBN!It's waking up and
I think it's going to be a banner year
for Phlox pilosa and Penstemon X (P calycosus).
Last year the penstemon bloomed before the phlox,
but, this year PPPP is in the lead!
Exciting times at C&L!

Now, I must be off to plant these red stemmed dogwoods,
before the rains arrive...
It's risky to plant them in this kill zone, but,
they look so darn good out there.
There's something wonderful about
combining hot colors like reds, purples and oranges.
I just discovered this blooming and had to share~(ed)

Have a wonderful day ~

Gail

  1. I found a love for Forget Me Nots last year...they have reseeded and I collected seeds...they should be everywhere before long. My PPPP has buds on them...thanks!!

  2. Those dogwoods look so good out there already, Gail, what a splash of winter interest they will be and a nice vertical in the green. There may be flowers and berries as a bonus. Hooray for forget me nots, what a sweet blue!

  3. Good morning Gail. Your GOBN is looking great!

My PPP is looking good. I hope it blooms this year. I'm kind of thinking I planted it in too much shade. If so, I have a better place to move it too.

  6. The red twig dogwoods look beautiful in the garden. I have three of them and enjoy the splash of color next to the arborvitae during the winter.

  8. I thought of you this morning while walking at the park. The PPPP is beginning to bloom there. With this scorching (for spring) weather we have been having it seems that all the wildflowers are blooming at once. What a show.

  10. Hi Gail.....I do hope your forget me nots stay. I love them, they decorate each and every corner of the garden here.

Love the red stemmed dogwoods. I have them here and the lime green stems.....they are a wonderful addition and really come into their own during the winter.

Everything is looking so good at C&L....

  11. Things are looking mighty spiffy, Gail! Have no red twig dogwoods here but many gracing the shoreline at the lake where forget-me-nots run free!

  12. Love those dogwoods. Must put those on my list.
Your gardens are looking divine. Wish mine look half that good.

  13. My eye was caught by that bright red tulip, and I almost missed the forget-me-nots:) Don't you just love spring? Surprises await every time we walk out the door. By the way, I think I spied some PPPP coming up in my butterfly garden yesterday--I'm so excited!

  14. Oh I love your Garden Of Benign Neglect - it doesn't look neglected! Beautiful and cheerful.

  15. Love your forget-me-nots! After all my writing about those in France, I didn't plant them for fear they would fry in my hot sun.

While we all complained about the long, cold, wet winter, the plants seem to be more robust--bigger and healthier. I have a few agastache already forming buds and they were just little plugs in September.

  16. Gosh, I love your purple chair -- and it's even better now with its new accessories. :)

  17. Isn't it fun when you discover new things blooming every day? Looks like you've had a few surprises, too! Enjoy the blooms.

  18. I love your tulips. No tulips here so I have to get my tulip fix elsewhere.

PPPP has started to bloom and is she ever bright and beautiful!

  19. Gail, Do you have brunnera? It has the sweetest little blue flowers (prolific!) ever. Check it out, if you haven't already. :-) I love your purple chair.

  20. Such beautiful blooms. Is that a poppy or a tulip with the forget-me-nots? I love your dogwoods. I do miss the dogwoods in spring. They are spring!

  21. Shady, I wish I did, but brunnera has never survived our dry summers or wet inters...I have long admired it in your garden and other northern gardens. gail

  22. Is it time for PPPP already? The season here is very early and all at once. Lovely tulips and always such a nice treat. Looking great next to your aubergine chairs.

  23. Beautiful! No such colors in my garden yet, just yellows and whites. Like the bench color too!

  24. Hi Gail, I'm pretty sure my PPPP will bloom before my penstemons too. I love the dogwoods. I see lots of green in them thar beds. Hooray!

  25. Gail, the GOBN is looking mighty fetching this spring! I hope your dogwoods are happy. I have one planted in our swale where the soil is always wet, all year long, and it loves it there. Clearly, sharp drainage is not necessary for them! :)

  26. I hope you got those dogwoods planted. They look wonderful there! The rain will get them settled in nicely. Nearly one inch here and I am ever so happy. Tulips look great! Have a fabulous day Gail!

  27. Pretty pictures, Gail. As I write the hail is coming down hard here. Definitely not a good time to plant dogwoods or anything else for me! I got some groundcovers planted in between flagstone yesterday. Isn't it nice to get some jobs done, even if we are interrupted by April showers frequently?

  28. Perfect spot for those dogwoods - such a good red colour - and if it's damp there, there will be enough branches for containers in the winter. I used to pick the forget-me-nots and put them in a little bud vase by my bed - so sweet until the cat yanked them out. Great colour combo with the chair and tulips - can hardly wait to see the PX4!

  29. I'm just catching up on this and your last post as well! i really like the red twig dogwoods. I think they will be gorgeous. I accidentally discovered the orange/purple combination a few years ago and now I deliberately plan it. Your garden is very beautiful. Every garden is unique and special unto itself. We may get inspiration from a garden magazine or another garden, but our own soil will be itself. And that is a good thing!

  30. It all looks so pretty. I love the combinations of those hot colors, I need to be more brave and try more. The red twig dogwoods really look perfect there.
