Our Early Morning Singing Song
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope your weekend was filled with sweet sunshine,
laughter, love, friendship and enough time in the garden.
Saturday was Mr I's birthday.
Happy Birthday Baby!
Gail
PS Just to let you know I am singing this song, too!
You can hear the entire of this song by Oliver here.
It's one of my favorite songs from the Musical "Hair"
Hair is: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical
with book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni
and music by Galt MacDermot.
  1. First of all, I should thank you for the song. It was so good! I had a busy weekend. Saturday was bad-busy at office and Sunday was good-busy with my family, friends, and plants!
    My Monday is extra good after reading your post and wonderful photos.
  2. You must be in my generation if it occurs to you to regard your garden to a tune from "Hair" - great idea! It's one of my favorite songs, and your photos are beautiful. Barbara
  4. Oh Gail, so much so sing about! First, a very Happy Birthday to Mr. I and a big hug from us to him. We actually saw a live performance of Hair in Tulsa, back in the day, complete with that controversial scene. The cast stood in a square shape, holding a large canvas, then dropped it as the lights went out at the end of the song. Little was seen, but oh the hoopla. It is so strange to see the lyrics written down, that must have been fun to type! Your garden is speeding ahead, so much going on and all so lovely in the dappled light. What a fabulous way to begin another day of life, seeing your garden. :-)
    I love morning light pictures and your garden is way ahead of mine .. although I must say mine has started to RUN with budding and growing .. there is nothing like the perfect light to take pictures of a garden : )
    Mr. I (does that stand for Ian .. as in the name of my son ? "number one son" cool if it does : )
    In any case lovely pictures and I enjoyed the musical notes .. even though they are STUCK in my head now girl !!
    Joy : )
  8. Joy, It's an abbreviation of what my husband put on his name tag~~Mr I Don't Garden or Blog~~ at the Austin Spring Fling. There was an informal get together and a few and spouses attended.
  9. Gail,
    That Solomon Seal looks great. I planted one 10 years back it got neglected. Bulldozers did it in when the new septic field was put in. Last fall I was given some of it and not we have lots blooming! Made my day with your sillyness!
  11. Lovely, lovely spring in your garden!
    Well, that song brings back memories! Oliver went to UNC and was from NC. Oliver's brother worked as the athletic director at UNC back in the day.
  12. Oh, Gail, I want to go outside now to sing and soak up some of that starshine! Actually, I did step outside a short while ago and think what a beautiful day today is. You've captured the early morning light and magical beauty of the garden perfectly in your photos. And thanks for printing the lyrics here---this was one of my favorite songs from "Hair," too, but I never was sure of all the words, especially the "tooby ooby wallas":) I think I still have the old vinyl album around here somewhere...
    Happy Belated Birthday to Mr. I! I hope the two of you had a wonderful celebration.
  27. Gail...your gardens are looking so very lovely. I love the blue iris....I have planted some this year. I do hope they do well, rabbits do not like them, so fingers crossed.
    Not familiar with the song but just going to check it out......
  30. Oh, mercy, Gail, now I'm so confused! I thought "Good Morning, Starshine" was a Donovan song and had no connection whatever with "Hair"! Of course, the only thing I actually remember about "Hair" was my father dragging me and my sister to it when we were in high school so we would know what naked people looked like. I'm sure my mother put him up to it, too. Talk about humiliating! Anyway, your wonderful photos remind me that my own variegated Solomon's seal is coming up in great swathes and looking fantastic. And a very happy brithday to Mr. I!
  31. OFB, You have wonderfully open minded parents! I am to coin a phrase tripping through the past...just listened to Three Dog Night sing Easy To Be Hard! I had forgotten that so many songs from Hair were soon hits!
    Now I am off to listen to Donovan!
  33. Of course I had to open another window to listen and read at the same time. Of course I had so forgotten Sabba Sibby sabba etc. You have made me smile and enjoy this blast from the past. Happy B'Day to Mr. I.
  34. Happy belated Birthday to Mr. I. Hope you had a wonderful one.
    Great looking at your garden in the morning light. It is ever so lovely & seems to be running at top speed.
    Thanks for the tour.
  35. First of all, that Solomon's Seal photo is a killer!! love the backlighting.
    Second,I haven't thought of that song for many years. Perfect fit to celebrate spring awakening.
    Your mention of going to listen to Donovan and Three Dog Night...wow what a trip down memory lane.
    Happy Birthday to your husband.
  37. I'm not familiar with that song Gail but it sounds catchy. Glad you have a song in your step these days ~ looks like you have good reason for that! Lots of beautiful blooms for sure. Your first photo of the Solomon's seal is superb tho. Is that early morning sunlight shining thru it?? Maybe I need to start getting up earlier?!!! ;-)
  38. They just don't write songs like they used to! It has been forever since I have heard that song, and since I am going straight to bed, I won't have it running through my head all day unless I dream about it. ;-) These gorgeous Spring days make you want to sing and dance.
  39. Love that song! Ok I'm giving away my age here but we've still got all our old 60's music on vinyl and it's still the best music and the happiest. It was The Age of Aquarius and very optimistic.
  40. That ultimate hippie song has always been one of my favorites, but when you see the words written down you realize how silly it is! Ah well, what do you expect from a big overgrown hippie like me! Thanks for sharing it once more. Love that iris, can't wait till mine bloom.
  41. What gorgeous photos on this pretty spring morning! Thanks for sharing.
  42. Hi Gail. Love this clever post (commented yesterday but must have been eaten by blogger ... said error 404) and still have the song ringing in my head! Saw Hair when it first opened on Broadway ... from there, went to St. Patrick's for confession :)
  43. Gail, I hadn't heard or thought of that 'hippie' song in years. But it sure brings back memories. Your photos are beautiful and certainly say starshine. By the way, the Susans from you are growing well in there little seed containers. I am so excited and can't wait to transplant them into the gardens.
    ReplyDelete
  44. Ok.. what are you singing ?
    Too funny how many times you wrote singing.
    The bright sunshine in your garden is what I want...everything is so cheery. Great shots also.
  45. Thanks for that blast from the past Gail, illustrated by your beautiful blooms.
    And happy (belated) birthday to Mr. I!
