When Trouble Comes Knocking On The Door!

"Hello!
I know you're in there!
"

You can attempt to ignore it, but, sometimes it's quite insistent!

"Not answering!
Who does she think she's fooling!"

...and just when you resolve

"You cannot ignore me."

that you can let it go

"I am big, noisy and clever.
Wild feed for the smaller birds is just as tasty!"

It discovers a way to hang on!

  1. Gail!!!! Be strong, do not give in to temptation! Go in another room, one with no windows! Play loud music, watch TV, read a book that holds your attention. Wear ear plugs. Pretend she is not there. That's all I've got. Good luck. You need it. :-)

  4. OK, I see from earlier posts this thing is a peahen. A pet?? Knowing nothing of large birds, I first assumed you were being visited by a vulture or a rogue wild turkey. Amazing!

  5. She may be finding you a bit of a difficult case, but your training is coming right along!

  6. Priscilla F. Peahen is quite insistent~But Mr I is even more insistent...Roosting on his convertible is not okay. I am not happy that she's eating the seedlings in my garden.

  7. She's as bad as the late squirrel Beggar. Are you sure you don't want to change her name? Or maybe naming her was your first mistake. :-)

  8. Gail, it seems that Priscilla is indefatigable, which is just another way of saying a relentless PITA! Too bad MMD's fox isn't there to chase her off.

  9. Funny for us- not so funny for you, Gail...it looks like Priscilla's plan for the Great Backyard Bird Count is to simplify your life by having your total count be 1 Peahen!

  10. Give it up, Gail. She has chosen you! :-) Do peahens eat ticks? Guinea hens do. Maybe she serves a purpose?

Go ahead and give her a name.

  11. She is yours Gail. Remember Bootsie started just by visiting, and now he has taken over......watch out she doesn't take over the couch. LOL.

There is a peacock running around and creating havoc in a new ritzy development of housing, and retail stores. It has made the front page of the local newspaper 3 or 4 times. Maybe they are related.

Delightful little post Gail - I think she is quite cute, (as long as she stays on your side of the ocean).

  19. Hi Gail - I've heard the saying that dogs have owners and cats have staff - well I think it looks as if Peacocks might have staff too - or at least they think they do!! Talk about testing your patience!! Hope you're having a good week - Miranda x

  25. Sorry that I missed Priscilla's name in the comments!

You do know that birds can be spayed? I had a female cockatiel (tiny compared to Priscilla) who kept laying (unfertilized) eggs that were causing infection problems. I took her to an avian vet and had her spayed!

  32. Oh dear... I feel your pain dear Gail. I guess you can be happy you don't have "six" of them at once eating and foraging through your gardens. Sounds like it might be time to call a trapper for Priscilla. She is getting way too familiar.

  40. Oh, Gail, I'm so glad to know that Priscilla is all right! I've been a little worried about what had happened to her. Perhaps she was off visiting the relatives for a little while...let's just hope she doesn't bring them to stay at your house, too:)

  41. I knew from the title this post would be about Priscilla! :) I get squirrels and ducks knocking on my glass doors. And I'm sort of coming round to an abandoned (unneutered male, annoying) cat that keeps hanging around. Sigh.

  42. Roosting on Mr. I's convertible is one thing, but eating the seedlings is going too far. Yep, she's definitely got to go!

I feel your pain Gail - between the squirrels and rabbits overrunning, eating, and digging up the garden here, it's a wonder anything at all grows. I fed them last winter, they're having to fend for themselves this year. I haven't forgiven them for the damage they did last fall. I hope the owls, coyotes, and hawks here have been keeping very well-fed this winter.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Gail, if you feed her when she comes knocking, she might not eat the seedlings in your garden!! ;-) Just kidding. I think you have to just accept the inevitable. She has claimed you and your garden as hers. I think she's one smart pea hen. She knows a good thing/place when she sees it.

  44. Love your photo essay about your friend!! She obviously know where to find food!!
    Have a good day!

  48. Hi Gail, I was reading your posts and I can't let this pass. This is so cute! I hope you'll keep her. :) But you have to careful, peahens eat about everything! At least, you let the trash can away from her.Maybe she'll help you in your gardening. :)
