May All of You Have Enough In 2011

Priscilla earlier this year

New Year's Eve has never been a rah rah rush of exuberance and celebration for Mr I and me....We don't watch the Rockefeller Square countdown on New Year's Eve. We don't set off fireworks or fire crackers. There is no kissing and hugging of strangers at parties or bars. We are civilized people! We are going to a friend's house for a pizza party. Did I say civilized? I meant to say, we are men and women of a certain age. We will toast toast the New Year at midnight Eastern Time (we live in the Central Time Zone).

It's New Year's Eve Day, the sun is not quite up and I pause to reflect over this year. This has been a year of marvelous experiences; travel across the pond; new friendships; time with blogging friends; new endeavors; deepening of understandings; and even loss. It has been a wondrous adventure! Thank you for joining me on part of the ride...Knowing you has enriched my life beyond words.

Happy New Year....May you all have enough this coming year. Enough love; enough friendship; enough time to play and laugh; enough time in your gardens; and enough of what you need.

See you next year!

  2. Your blog was the first I found when I was looking at how to "treat" this awful clay soil of mine. I read it faithfully. Thank you for sharing your garden.

  4. Pizza party sounds great! I have found that travel makes one realize how 'enough' we have in this country. I am grateful. Happy New year to you and Mr. I and may we always realize that 'enough' should equal contentment.

  8. Dear Gail, Happy New Year! I love your photo and recall with a deep smile your stories of sweet Priscilla! Having enough is surely good enough and necessary . . . your meaning is beautiful and simple. The most important kind of message. It has been a joy to journey along with you through your special and beautiful blog. I have been touched by many many of your posts over this past year and the year before. I look forward to many more inspiring posts in 2011! Wishing you and yours many blessings this coming New Year. Hugs/Carol

  9. Happy New Year to you, too, Gail. What a wonderful sentiment... "enough".

I'll be ringing in the new year at the same time... Eastern, but that's my timezone, anyway.

    Happy New Year!

  10. I like the sound of your New Year's celebration. We will enjoy a quiet family night at home. Although I'll probably ring in the exact midnight hour while snoozing.

I wish all the same good wishes for your 2011. It was my joy to finally meet you this year... surely I will see you again soon. I'm counting on it.
Happy day and New Year. (love the photo of your Priscilla~ we have another resident peacock here~~ so far only one *sigh*)

  11. Dear Gail, from one women of a certain age to another, I like your style. Now, my problem is, I already on EST...so I must choose Asia I think. Happy New Year and look forward to visiting with you in 2011.

  12. Happy New Year to you as well Gail, we too are of a certain age. We don't venture out at all--NYE is when we enjoy special foods and relax. If we are lucky we will be awake at midnight.
SC allows firecrackers so the dogs will be going nuts. Should be an interesting evening.

  19. Dear Gail. I want to wish you ENOUGH of EVERYTHING you need this year. It is always such a delight to come here and read your cheerful look at life. My Dearly Beloved and I will also be with friends enjoying a rather quiet dinner and then early to bed. We like to get up early and start our Annual Bird List on New Years Day. Happy New Year.

  23. Thank you, Gail, and a Happy New Year to you, too! I look forward to another year of reading about your garden adventures and being inspired by you. We also had a "civilized" New Year's Eve celebration--getting together with Beckie and her husband at their house for good food and lots of reminiscing. Enjoying the company of good friends is the best way to usher in the New Year.

  24. Gail, I echo your fine sentiment. It was a delight to meet you this summer, and I remain ever-grateful for your thoughtful gift of a fan. Waving it from up here on a rainy 1.1.11. Cheers!

  37. Larry and I used to go to friends' houses for small gatherings, but for the last ten years or more, we have chosen to stay home and watch a movie. This year, it was Social Network.

The only reason we were up at midnight was because Heidi had eaten about a third of one of the loaves of bread I had made that day, and kept wanting to go outside. She never really settled down. I was so mad at her!

I hope you find healing from the loss of your mother as the milestone days go by.
