March is Roaring In Like A Lion...

I have always wanted to say that....

It is good to be home, St Louis is still in the middle of winter even thought they had 60 and 70 degree weather. There were no tell tale signs of spring, not a crocus in sight. So pulling into the driveway to February Gold Daffs, grape hyacinth, purple and yellow crocus was wonderful.

This morning I rushed outside to see what was going on in the gardens. A spring garden can change in four days. Several wildflowers were peaking up out of the soil...not many in bloom but definitely awake. No photos today, too windy.

Rue anemone (Anemonella thalictroides) This is a dainty perennial that is often found on the edges of the cedar glades.

Golden Ragwort and Smalls Ragwort (Senecio smallii and Senecio aureus) Both can be thug like but I appreciate their ground cover effect and their buttery yellow flowers .

Crested Dwarf Iris (Iris cristata) This is a miniature iris...not usually in the cedar glades but happy in the wildflower garden.

Cut-Leaved Toothwort (Dentaria laciniata) Fairly common wildflower in the Central Basin and one of my favorites...it can reseed wherever it wants.

Spring Beauty (Claytonia virginica) Most of the lawns in this neighborhood are blanketed in this sweet ephemeral each spring....mine is not, but I have been planting them everywhere.

When it comes to my wildflowers, they are all my favorites.

  2. Tina,

Yes....it seems she fell because of a heart attack. Yikes. But....she is going to be okay and it will be managed with meds.

    Thanks, for asking.

  3. Gail, glad to see you are back home in one piece. I wish you a quiet peaceful week. If that's not possible, then I wish you soft spring weather that lets you get outside and breathe deeply.

  6. So, Spring IS just around the corner? I love being able to "run around the yard" looking for signs of Spring. We have a bit of a wait, yet. But I'll be ready! :-)

    Thanks for visiting me.
